ECF UPDATES

11/07/07

1. TIPS AND TRICKS: The Tip and Trick entitled "PDF's - Combining PDF's into One Document" has been updated to include important information about how to avoid overwriting data when merging 2 PDF's of the same form (e.g., 2 OBF #23's, 2 financial management certificates, etc.). A new Tip and Trick entitled "PDF - Data on Fillable PDF is Not Dark Enough When Printed" has been posted.

2. CHAPTER 12/13 AMENDED CLAIMS: Per General Order #07-1, amended claims will only require an LBF #302 notice if the debtor is pro se. Debtor's attorneys must object to an amended claim within 14 days; therefore, it is very important to review Notifications of Electronic Filing (NEF's) for claims in Chapter 12 and 13.

3. ECF Downtime - The Court has begun the process of restoring archived cases to ECF and therefore ECF, PACER, and VCIS will be unavailable during some weekend hours, including 6 a.m. to 12:00 noon on Saturday, November 10 and Sunday, November 11. ECF will also be unavailable on Saturday, November 17 from 8 a.m. to 12:00 noon for an upgrade to version 3.1.6.

SPAM: Do NOT identify messages that you receive from ECF as spam. This flags the ECF email address for your Internet Service Provider and they may filter the email address or the entire domain of that email address for other customers, i.e., all aol.com users who receive ECF email notifications from any federal court in the United States.

If you do not wish to receive certain notices, such as proofs of claim, create an agent or rule in your email program that automatically moves those messages with "proof of claim" in the subject line to the trash.

For information on how to discontinue notices in a particular case, click on ECF Tips & Tricks and read "Emails-Requesting No Further Notices".

Thanks for your assistance and cooperation in this important matter.

2. TECHNICAL HELP: The PACER Service Center is available to help current and prospective ECF users with technical information and problems (browser issues, Adobe installation and use, connection issues, etc.). You can call them at 1-800-676-6856 or visit their website at www.pacer.psc.uscourts.gov.

3. ECF MANDATORY DEADLINE LOOMING: Attorneys are reminded that they must become registered ECF users and begin electronic filing by August 1, 2007. Attorneys not using ECF in other districts must attend training and successfully complete a proficiency exam before they will be issued a login.

Remaining classes are filling fast, so if you have not enrolled, click Training to register. Attorneys who have completed training are urged to complete their proficiency exams at the earliest opportunity.

4. CONGRATULATIONS and THANKS to the 403 attorneys, 497 creditors, and all trustee/U.S. Trustee staff who have become ECF participants! If you have a suggestion about how to improve ECF, click the Comments button in ECF to submit it via email.

5. REMINDER ABOUT ECF PROCEDURES AND LOCAL FORMS: Remember that in ECF, you can click the Info button to access ECF procedures and the LBFs button to obtain the most current version of a local bankruptcy form.
