Judges of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit have appointed Teresa H. Pearson as the next bankruptcy judge of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Oregon.
Ms. Pearson will fill a vacancy resulting from the retirement of the Honorable Trish M. Brown, who will step down October 2, 2021. Ms. Pearson will receive the oath of office from Chief Judge Renn on October 4, 2021.

Today, June 17, 2021, President Joseph Biden signed legislation into law establishing June 19 as Juneteenth National Independence Day. In observance of this new federal holiday, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Oregon will be closed on Friday, June 18, 2021. All filing deadlines for Friday, June 18, 2021 are now extended to Monday, June 21, 2021.
The Court will resume normal operations on Monday, June 21, 2021.

SAN FRANCISCO – Preliminary judging of the essay and video entries has been completed in the 2021 Ninth Circuit Civics Contest for high school students in the western United States, the U.S. Territory of Guam and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. This change will affect how hearings are scheduled. Filers should continue to obtain hearing dates from the court’s website or from the courtroom deputy assigned to the hearing judge. The United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Oregon is pleased to announce the creation of a new Pro Bono Program which will provide free representation to unrepresented parties who cannot afford to hire an attorney and are in need of legal assistance. The program was created with support from the Debtor-Creditor section of the Oregon State Bar and will be administered by the Bankruptcy Court.

Kirsten Wilkinson has been selected as the next Clerk of Court. Ms. Wilkinson currently serves as the Assistant Circuit Executive for Court Policy & Operations for the Ninth Circuit. Previous to that, she was the Chief Deputy Clerk of Operations for the United States District and Bankruptcy Courts for the District of Idaho. Ms. Wilkinson began her federal judicial career as an operations supervisor with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Oregon.

On January 12, 2021, the chapter 11 quarterly fee schedule established by 28 U.S.C. § 1930(a)(6) was changed by the Bankruptcy Administration Improvement Act of 2020 (the Act), Pub L. No. 116-325. The Act makes the new schedule effective on the first day of the first quarter after its enactment, which is April 1, 2021. Additional information is available here.
