The Court is pleased to announce the launch of our new Electronic Self-Representation (eSR) system for individuals who plan to file a chapter 7 bankruptcy case without an attorney. eSR is an online tool that guides debtors step-by-step through the process of creating a chapter 7 bankruptcy petition package. It creates most of the forms needed for filing, performs all calculations, and allows for electronic filing of the petition package with the court.

Judge Thomas M. Renn has been designated Chief Judge of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Oregon effective October 1, 2020 for a five-year term. Per 28 U.S.C §154(b), the chief judge of the bankruptcy court shall ensure that the rules of the bankruptcy court and of the district court are observed and that the business of the bankruptcy court is handled effectively and expeditiously.

At its March 2020 session, the Judicial Conference approved inflationary adjustments to fees on the appellate, district, and bankruptcy court miscellaneous fee schedules, and on the Court of Federal Claims and the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation miscellaneous fee schedules. The U.S. District Court has posted proposed changes to its local rules (LRs), including LRs 2100, 2200, and 2300 pertaining to bankruptcy procedure. Effective March 25, 2020 and until further notice, the entrance to the Sixth + Main building, where the Portland office of the bankruptcy court is located, will be locked as an added security measure during the COVID-19 outbreak.
